The JSC is Born
When the Iron Curtain fell in 1991, Ministry to Israel became heavily involved helping to bring Jewish families to Israel from the FSU. Our first emotions were that of deep contentment, knowing that this was the hand of God fulfilling prophecy before our very eyes. It became apparent, however, that the absorption process for these newly arriving immigrants was sometimes overwhelming and even heart breaking. Many arriving at the Ben Gurion Airport came with great expectations, only to be dashed against the rocks of reality. Some, not able to cope with the hardships of daily life in Israel where they did not know the language, culture, customs, eventually turned their eyes back to Mother Russia. In 1997 the leadership of Ministry to Israel came to the realization that it was just not enough to help them home, they needed assistance once they got here. After much prayer for direction, the Jerusalem Support Center was established.
The Purpose of the JSC
The primary commitment of the JSC is to help new Jewish immigrants who have been in the country for less than 10 years. The qualified staff of the JSC is Russian, Hebrew, Spanish and English speaking and have assisted tens of thousands of Jews to start a new life in the Promised Land. Not only does the JSC staff help in benevolent ways, the staff also provides an inviting atmosphere where people feel respected and cared for from the moment they walk through the door.
